Push notifications for message centre are now live on the Gumtree App. Push notifications allow for easier connections between buyers and sellers because whenever a message is sent between a buyer and a seller, the recipient will receive an instant alert on their phone. If you don’t have the app installed, you’ll still be notified by email, as well as see a notification in the ‘My Messages’ tab on Gumtree.

If you’re a Dealer with only one dealership location and your lead email is the same as your Gumtree login email, we encourage you to take advantage of this. Simply download the Gumtree App to your phone to stay on top of your leads.

1. How to enable push notifications on your mobile

Firstly, make sure push notifications are enabled on your phone. The easiest way to turn on push notifications is to go into the Gumtree App.

iPhone

Open the app. On the ‘Home’ screen, slide the page up until you see ‘Settings’ at the bottom. Set ‘New Message Notification’ to on.

Android

Open the app. On the ‘Home’ screen you’ll see ‘Settings’ at the bottom of the menu. Click on ‘Settings’ and make sure the box for ‘Turn on push notifications for message box’ is ticked.

2. See how push notifications make leads more accessible

You’ve got a Subaru listed on Gumtree. Jessica is an interested buyer and decides to get in contact with you via message on the Gumtree App.

If you’ve got the Gumtree App installed on your phone, the moment her message is sent you’ll receive an instant alert to your phone.

If you’re on an iPhone you’ll also notice a notification in the top right hand corner of the Gumtree App icon. This signifies the number of messages waiting for you in your message inbox.

When you enter the Gumtree App on your phone, you’ll again see the unread messages waiting for you.

Simply click on the message button to view your message inbox and tap the message to open it up.

Within the message you’ll see Jessica’s name, email, phone number and message. To reply, just type your message in the space at the bottom and press send.

Your message will appear directly underneath Jessica’s message just like a conversation.

In moments Jessica will receive an instant alert on her phone.

Jessica is able to write back to you immediately within the Gumtree App and continue the conversation.
